Our Heritage

Allnutt Funeral Service is, according to the Colorado State Chamber of Commerce, the oldest continuously operated family business in northern Colorado.

A sailor and native of the whaling island of Nantucket, "Capt." Thomas G. Macy came west following the Civil War. He was elected the pioneer Coroner of Weld County in 1884 and our records indicate that he conducted his first funeral service on April 6, 1886.

Frederic J. Allnutt, born in England, came to Colorado as a young man. Desiring a college education he enrolled at the Normal School now the University of Northern Colorado. Frederic boarded at the Macy home and helped Capt. Macy in the undertaking business. Frederic married Capt. Macy's daughter Anna and joined his father-in-law at Macy's Undertaking Company in 1900.

Anna and Fred's son, John, joined his father and grandfather in the business in the 1920's and son, Lloyd, in the 30's. Jack and Bill Allnutt joined their father, John, in the 1950's, becoming a fourth generation funeral service firm.

In 1985 Rick Allnutt joined his father, Bill, and Uncle Jack, to become the fifth generation of his family to serve Northern Colorado in funeral service. Allnutt Funeral Service's goal is to perform with the same caring concern that began over a century ago with Great-Great Grandfather Macy.

After five generations, and over a century, not much has changed in our philosophy of caring for people. Our sincere interest in people is a family trait of which we are proud, and one that we inherited from our forefathers. It is essential in the service we provide, and caring for others will carry us into the next generation.
